Alois Sukundimi

Alois Sukundimi

Country/Region: Papua New Guinea

Village: Torembi Village

Alois was born in Torembi Village in 1965. He learned to carve from his father, renowned carver Clemence Tuvi. His carvings, while based on traditional life, are often contemporary interpretations of every-day life in Torembi Village. More recently, Alois has created carvings illustrating long, complex myths of the Sepik. Apart from their narrative content these works represent the human form with a tension, vitality and warmth that is radically different from that found in much traditional carving.
