Artist Statement: "Salmon are an integral part of Kwa-Gulth life. Coastal life would have been next to impossible without the plentiful salmon to feed the villages. But the salmon need their nourishment as well. In recent years we have seen salmon stocks plummet and nobody can seem to give a definitive reason why. Maybe there isn't as much food for the salmon as there used to be.
"This design has that in mind: it represents four Salmon going after the fry in the middle. It surmises that at a time when the salmon are running out of food, they will start cannibalizing their young to survive. This is a time when they need to use every trick in the book to survive as a species. Their fight to live should be a warning bell, as they are such an important part of our lives as well."
