Artist Statement: This piece tells the story of initiation. When the boys are ready for initiation they gather chickens and betel nut before entering the spirit house. Many canoes are gathered into the Spirit House and the uncles sit on the canoes as the initiates undergo the skin cutting. After the time of seclusion it finishes with a big sing sing that goes from 5pm until daybreak.
