Artist Statement: This is Aunt Mary Jane, who survived tuberculosis in the residential school.
She married a native man and was severely abused by him and could not bear children.
She then married a Caucasian man and was a maid to Caucasians in the city. The image of the house on her forehead depicts the idea of home and community
