lessLIE ( Coast Salish ) - Singing Visions

Artist Statement: Four Faces are depicted on this little drum, each sharing the white mouth in the center, as well as sharing each other's eyes. Through the Northwest Coast design device of visual punning, the white mouth in the center is also simultaneously an eye. This symbolizes the spirit of community in Coast Salish communiTIES, in which other traditional spirit dancers aid the newly initiated into singing songs of their guardian spirit vision.
