Errol Hillis was born in Kispiox, BC and is of the Gitxsan Nation. Errol has been carving and drawing since 1986. Since then, it's been a learning experience that will continue into the future. He views the talent of painting and carving as a gift. He'll always be grateful for the teachings he has received from various carvers and elders. In addition, he takes pride in the style and quality of work that is produced. With confidence, Errol believes that a person can accomplish anything the imagination provides. In working with a buyer, Errol's passion is to create custom designed carvings for an individual's wishes.
Errol incorporates a variety of materials and tools and has worked in various mediums. In carvings, red and yellow cedar are commonly used, on occasion alder and basswood are utilized. Original paintings are on acid free paper and Limited Edition Prints are produced by professional screen printers. Carving knives, adze and power tools shape the totem poles, masks, plaques, boxes, benches, bowls, rattles, and talking sticks. In addition to carving and painting, Errol has begun to experiment with fashion design and looks forward to further pursuit in the field. The love of creating and sharing artwork from the Gitxsan style is what Errol Hillis continues to take pride in.
