Sandy Johnson
Kwakwaka'wakw
Sandy Johnson (b. 1963) was born and raised in Gilford Village in Northern British Columbia. He was born into a wealth of tradition, and carving and is descended from a long line of carvers and artists. Sandy was initially taught to carve by his father, Sam Johnson. In addition to this, he has apprenticed to such masters as Beau Dicks and Wayne Alfred.
He is equally at home with large and small-scale carving, and is particularly known for intricately carved and delicately painted miniature transformation masks. Sandy presently lives in Alert Bay with his wife and family.
