Country/Region: Northwest Coast (view other artists from Northwest Coast)
Tribe: Haida
Laurence Knowles (b. 1967) is well known for his monumental carvings in stone, as well as Haida marionettes made of argillite. He also carves in, red cedar, and alder. Ron Telek and Henry Green are among his teachers.
Laurence's work appears in the collections of the Museum of Northern British Columbia, Skidegate Museum, and private collectors across North America. Laurence is currently preparing to carve a 35-ft stone totem pole. He is one of a very small group of Northwest Coast artists to carve in this difficult traditional medium.
