Northern Tutchone/Tlingit artist Eugene Alfred was born 1970 in Mayo, Yukon Territory. He is a member of the Selkirk First Nation in Pelly Crossing, Yukon, where he belongs to the Crow clan. Alfred has studied with noted artists Dempsey Bob and Ken Mowatt, and spent four years at the Kitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art located near Hazelton, BC. He has taught several courses in carving and tool-making, including a carving course at the Gitanmaax School. Alfred works full-time as an artist and lives in the Whitehorse area.
