Patrick Amos
Nuu Chah Nulth
Patrick Amos (b.1957) was born in Friendly Cove on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, site of the first landing of Captain Cook. As a young boy, he moved to Victoria in order to attend school.
Nuu Chah Nulth artist, Joe David, has been a strong influence on Amos, as was Tim Paul, the latter was at that time chief carver at the BC Provincial Museum in Victoria.
Amos later assisted Tim Paul in the carving of a very large totem pole to be raised at the close of the Commonwealth Games in Auckland, New Zealand.
Patrick Amos is now a well-known artist in his own right and enjoys the challenge of carving large, intricate masks, making impressive painted drums and participating in the carving of larger work. He is also a successful two dimensional artist with many limited edition prints to his credit.
