Alano Edzerza is a member of the Raven Clan of the Tahltan Nation, and was born in Victoria BC in 1980. He grew up in Terrace, Victoria and Vancouver and has been involved in artistic endeavors since an early age. He first learned about his Tahltan carving tradition from members of his family; in particular, Terrence Campbell. He received his first award for sculpture from the Victoria School Board at the age of 13.
In 2002, Alano continued his education in Arizona under the tutelage of Rick Charlie. Alano considers that leading artists Jay Simeon, Marcel Russ, Phil Gray, Corey Bulpitt, Beau Dick, Mark Preston, Dempsey Bob and Richard Adkins have had the most influence on his development as an artist.
Latterly Edzerza has been experimenting with glass as a new medium. He had his first solo show featuring works in steel, graphite, glass, gold and silver as well as works on canvas and silkscreen prints at Stonington Gallery in Seattle,
He is represented by Alcheringa Gallery in Victoria and Doug Reynolds in Vancouver.
