One of the leading contemporary artists of the coast Joe David was born in 1946. Joe attended art school in San Markos, Texas and in Seattle, WA. He also worked on a number of large projects, including assisting Bill Reid with a totem pole for the Skidegate Council Chambers House. A great student of tradition, Joe David carves in a number of Northwest Coast tribal styles and understands well the context of mask and dance.
