Plasius Asapi
Iatmul (sub group Kanjamali) Maramba Village, Middle Sepik,
Born in Maramba Village in 1945, Plasus Asapi is one of the most eminent carvers in Papua New Guinea. He received his early training from his grandfather Mangon and has been carving for more than thirty years. He now resides in Maramba Village, but spent several years working as an artist in Madang.
Alcheringa Gallery has worked with Plasus since 1986, A dedicated artist, he is recognized by his peers as a master. He has a special gift in observing day- to - day village life, and an equal talent in expressing real personalities in his carved figures. Plasus devotes his entire life to his art. His works are in collections in Australia, France, Germany, Canada and the United States.
