Jack Bai was born in Yamok Village in 1952. His father, William Bai, a mastercarver of note, taught him to carve. Long famed for their carvings of birds in the form of stylized hornbills, a number of Yamok artists in recent years have been reviving old forms for ceremonial use as well as artistic inspiration. Jack Bai is one of these artists. His works are in American, Canadian and European collections.
