Yamok Village,

Silas Haluai is from Yamok Village, and learned traditional carving tehniques from his father. However, Silas is a mastercarver best known for innovation. He likes to carve imagery inspired by village life. He says 'I am a modern artist. I carve what I see around me in the village.' Mothers with their babies, children playing and whimsical animal figures are a few of the themes he chooses. His work is represented in galleries in Australia, Canada and Europe. His carvings are also sought by many private collectors world wide.
