Stan Bevan’s (b.1961) mother is Tahltan-Tlingit from Telegraph Creek on the Stikine River. His father is Tsimshian from Kitselas on the Skeena River, in northern British Columbia. Stan began his training at the K'san school in 1979. Later he apprenticed in the traditional way to his uncle, master artist Dempsey Bob. This relationship has had a major influence on his development as an artist. He has worked on several of Dempsey’s major projects including a 31-foot pole, and a 12-foot Beaver Clan pole in Saxman Village, Ketchikan, Alaska.
