Steven Jimowan was born in 1964. He learned to carve through a local school program, designed to encourage youth to re-engage with their culture. His father, master carver Jioiwan Kondied, was a great model for his son.
Today Jimowan is married with nine children, five girls and three boys.
An initiate of the men’s house, Jimowan often carves for ceremonies and dances. However,he explores his real passion for carving with his ability to bring the animals of the forest to life in his sculptures in wood.
