Chris descends from the Thunderbird Clan of the Namgis tribe (in Alert Bay) of the Kwakwaka'wakw Nation. He grew up surrounded by traditional culture and is a Potlatch Chief in his traditional big house. He studied metalworking in high school and silversmithing at Camosun College while working on his undergrad from the University of Victoria. He has been expanding his metal working skills by travelling to New York and Tuscany, Italy to study with world renown Bulgarian Silversmith Valentin Yotkov.
