Salish artist Susan Point has immersed herself in the study of traditional Coast Salish art and culture. Her striking and distinctive art - from jewellery in precious metals to prints, paintings and monumental pieces in wood and glass - has won worldwide acclaim and a wide audience. An innovator with a strong personal style, she likes to express ancestral concepts and designs in new media such as glass and bronze as well as the more traditional wood.

Susan Point's freshness of vision in creating pieces in a variety of media and combining various media has added to her reputation, and her talent for working on a large scale has resulted in some of the most prestigious commissions offered to any Canadian artist. In her 20-year career, her work has been shown in over 6o group exhibitions (a number of them international) and 12 solo shows; and she has received over 35 commissions for public art pieces, plus nearly 50 commissions from institutions, associations and private collectors.

The book was edited by Gary Wyatt, with essays by Michael Kew (on traditional Coast Salish art), Peter MacNair (on the art of Susan Point) and Bill McLennan (on three new monumental carvings). Each of the 50 works of art reproduced in full colour is accompanied by a statement from Susan Point on its meaning or the process involved in making it. There is also a chronology of Point's exhibitions and commissions.
