The Story of Bukduma As told by Mastercarver Peter Minja……………….. Bukduma has the tail of a fish and the head of a pig. Huge in size, he appears to be extremely fierce but when he chooses can be very friendly. This strange hard working creature dwells and works only in the Sepik River. The responsibility for destroying and rebuilding the banks of the Sepik River is his sole responsibility. He answers to nobody but one woman and he may attack the river- bank villages once in a while if commanded by this woman for some reason. However, taking lives is not his business and generally both he and his female controller are hardworking friends intent on the destruction and rebuilding of this great river as it constantly changes course.
