Artist's Statement
In the spirit of spindle whorls, this contemporary Coast Salish design
depicts eight abstracted salmon heads crammed into a circle. The subtle
circle in the center is a salmon egg, symbolizing posterity. This painting
depicts a vision of four salmon heads crammed into an overpopulated circle.
Four salmon heads considering cannibalizing the only salmon egg left. As
humans, we live in a world with a growing population and depleting natural
resources. This means dEATh for some members of posterity. In the world
today, somebody's smoking a cigarette while somebody's starving because
some tobacco is grown in third world soil which should be used to grow
food. Multinational corpoRATIONS.
