"The coconut crab is considered a delicacy to the people of the sea. It is one of the many creatures that are admired by the Solomon Island people because of its ability to crack open a coconut with its powerful claws. Villagers will often use these creatures to guard their coconut plantation from would-be thieves. The coconut crab prefers the ripe nut of a coconut and will not break open those that are in the process of growing. They will however attack an unsuspecting creature (people included) should they have the intention of picking a coconut near the coconut crab's resting spot."
