Artist Statement: "Beaver lived near a village in cowichan and was known to carry his favourite wooden stick wherever he went. Beaver was always buisy with making dams around lakes and rivers. One time beaver put his stick down and had gotten busy with dam building, and a local villager found the wooden stick and thought to give to the chief of the village as a gift. River otters who also live
on the waters with beaver, saw the villager take beavers stick and notified beaver immediately. At once beaver found out his stick was taken and given to the chief, beaver went to the chief to ask for the special wooden stick back. The chief denied beaver again and again. Beaver thought to revenge chiefs stubbornness by building a dam so big that the water would fill so much the village began to flood. The chief saw the trouble and distress the villagers were in, so the chief gave the wooden stick back to beaver in so the dam would be lifted by beaver and life for the people can be back to normal."

On the piece the beaver is the pendant broach, and on the base are the otters.
