Artist Statement: "In our culture the loon represents harmony and peace. Loon is also a messenger because of its ability to dive under the water. The loon accompanies the chief of the Undersea World. The loon also possesses great supernatural power. In the warrior dance, called Tuxwid, the dancer may summon the loon to appear and make it's call, which could invoke death. It is a unique crest, rarely displayed as a family crest of privilege."
