Artist Statement: "Spirit Tararamanu is the Solomon Island spirit of the sea. There have been many sightings of this spirit throughout the many islands of the Solomon Islands. This spirit is said to fly low on top of the water in his nightly fishing trips. The Spirit's presence is apparent by a bright light that surrounds him on his flight. When the fishermen see this bright light approaching, they will tip their canoes and hide from sight. If a fisherman comes face-to-face with the spirit, the fisherman will get extremely sick and may eventually die. "
