In the spirit of spindle whorls, this contemporary circular Coast Salish design depicts four sacRED salmon in a perpetual spawning circle. Between these four sacRED salmon is a salmon egg, representing posterity. As with my previous painting, "Perpetuation," this design was executed in the spirit of spindle whorls. But in the case of this design, the spindle hole has been filled with an egg. This is a spindle holism. This spindle holism represents how Coast Salish culture has changed, and the vision of future geneRATIONS, who will create culture to replace some of the traditions which Coast Salish people have lost due to colonialism.
