Travelling in the Dreamtime Ngalyod created sacred sites throughout Western Arnhem Land and the adjacent islands. The Rainbow Serpent is the most important Creation ancestor for the Kunwinjku people (the Aboriginal people of Western Arnhem Land). She assumed a range of animal forms which artists depict according to their totems which are inherited from their ancestors. In this print she is shown lying beneath water lilies in her sacred billabong. Sleeping beings like Ngalyod will awaken to punish negligence or wrong doing.
