lessLIE: OVAL AND OVOID

Welcome to Alcheringa Gallery's summer exhibition. We are very pleased to present new original and serigraph works by lessLIE, a Coast Salish artist with a very thoughtful approach to his art practice. lessLIE combines ideas and imagery derived from modern and contemporary art, Northwest Coast art history and theory and literature to create graphic works that resonate with Coast Salish tradition and tread new ground simultaneously.

In conjunction with this exhibition, we present an exclusive new serigraph print by lessLIE titled Salmon Eggs. Viewable in the image index, his print is available in a limited edition of 75, and will be released on July 9th, the day the exhibition opens in the gallery space. Please contact the gallery to reserve your copy.

lessLIE's ideas, thoughts, and writings and the connections and conclusions he draws are essential components his artwork. There are many opportunities in this exhibition to become acqainted with these ideas and connections. On the following page, lessLIE's artist's statement for the exhibition will shed light on his ideas about Coast Salish art. Watch for the statement to appear on the website the week of July 4. The video clip below will provide further background on his unique approach and ideas. Accompanying each artwork in the image index, you will find an artist's statement illuminating the visual imagery you see.

We hope you enjoy the exhibition!
