"Happy harvest time in the Trobriand Islands is called the Milamala celebration; [it's] between July and September. Whenever this festivity comes, you will find men go their way and women go their way carrying yams from gardens to villages. It is a joyful time, a happy harvest time for the Trobriand people. Then you will find a lot of incidents happen. Young couples begin to separate, men go off on their own and women go on their own. By the end of those three months they start to make peace, bringing their families back together, reuniting them. That is the scene that is shown in this painting." -Martin Morububuna
