Artist's Statement

"In this area, the Mid-Sepik, we look after dogs. When we walk for a full day, when we're tired and we've washed and eaten our late dinner and gone to bed, the dog looks after our house. If a steal-man* or a rascal** comes in, the dog will wake us up. The bird and the fish are there because a man can eat a fish, a bird can eat a fish, and a dog can eat a fish. It is our main food."

- Kaua Gita
