Artist's Statement
"Different clans carve different animals. I carved a flying fox because it represents my mother's clan.
"One day, after building a Haus Tambaran, a man used the left-over canes to make a flying fox. While he was weaving it, it [changed] into a woman flying fox [which he held onto] and tried his best to fly out. When he flew out, a big storm came and all the cane was broken. When he came down to earth, he fell on a sago palm. He was all alone for many days. When a woman came to the river to collect sago, she saw his face reflected in the water. She looked up and saw the man with the flying fox sitting on the sago bark. She went to cut a wooden step to bring him down, and then they went home."
