Details
Early in creation times, all water was fresh water. During these times Puruti (Sea Osprey) and Jirakati (White Headed Sea Eagle) were spearing fish near the northern entrance to Apsley Strait, when they noticed a large creature under the water lilies on the waters edge. Not knowing it was his mother, Tipurundunga, Puruti speared her in the neck. Screaming with pain and urinating with fright, she rushed into the sea. The combination of blood and urine changed the water to the salt of the sea today. Tipurundunga changed herself into the Jabiru which lives on the edge of the freshwater lagoons.
