GALLERY CO-ORDINATOR

Alcheringa Gallery ( http://www.alcheringa-gallery.com ) seeks an incredible person with passion for indigenous art and culture and knowledge of art sales, public relations, and graphic design for full-time employment in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The successful candidate will have many of these strengths:

Arts Background
· enthusiasm for and knowledge of indigenous arts and cultures, including those of Canada's Northwest Coast, Australia, and Papua New Guinea
· exhibition experience (handling art, hanging work, show changes)
· experience working with artists

Sales Experience
· experience selling major works of art one-on-one to knowledgeable clients
· skill at building and sustaining relationships with clients

Computer Skills
· excellent knowledge of computers (mainly MacOS)
· creative troubleshooting experience
· strong graphic design skills and digital image manipulation (particularly Adobe Photoshop)
· good organizational skills (setting up file structures, naming structures, etc.)
• high proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), FTP programs
 • basic video conversion/editing

Communications
· strong writer and confident speaker
· experience with writing press releases
· experience with designing ads
· experience with scheduling communications

Photography
· experience with digital photography, lighting, and image editing for print and digital publication

General
· resilient sense of humour
· patience with interruptions
· willingness to work overtime when project deadlines require it and during show changes
• willingness to work some holidays and weekends, some evenings in summer
· creativity in finding solutions to fit a fixed budget
· good physical condition for moving heavy art objects

The deadline for application is Friday, June 19, 2009. Interviews will be scheduled for June 22/23. Start date approximately July 15, 2009. Wage commensurate with experience.
