In the time of our ancestors the first crocodile arrived in our village and lived off the residents there. On the day represented in this story the crocodile attacked a family in their canoe. The parents can be seen in the lower right of the carving and the child is seeking refuge with the dog. The villagers killed the crocodile and the meat was distributed to each family. The various families spread out each taking their share of the meat and today Harry says there are crocodiles up and down the Sepik River.
