Details

The Killer Whale is known as a symbol of Family and Power. This piece depicts the Killer Whale in traditional Haida forms. It's eye contains a salmon egg, with its eyes nose and mouth. A human, with an eye nose and teeth of a human face sits in the body. The Killer Whale is portrayed jumping from the ocean with the water flowing off of its body. Salmon in this design ore significant because they were and are still the building blocks of West Coast list. Every year the Salmon would return to the rivers of the BC Coast. They fed the original Coastal Peoples, allowing them to settle in villages where they developed their rich art forms. The Salmon still return today. They feed Man, Eagles, Killer Whales, Bears, and even the great Cedars as they enrich the soil along our watersheds.
