In Cyprus a million songbirds are killed every year to make a delicacy called ambelopoulia. The most desired ingredient for this dish is the Black Cap songbird which is caught using lime-sticks. These sticks are covered in glue and placed in the bushes, and often a singing bird in a cage is placed near by to lure the other birds. The birds land and can’t free themselves, and then the hunter can take them home for cooking or to sell.
