Gallery Artists Autumn 2010
Three years in the making, Shaman Mask ~Mind, Body, Soul was started during Luke Marston's stay in Japan. Stylistically informed by Buddhist iconography and the Noh masks of Japanese classical theatre, Marston's mask depicts a Coast Salish narrative of a shamanic ritual performed on a lost soul.
Teddy Ba's Suspension Hook was carved at Alcheringa during the artist's six month residency at MOA in 2006 and has recently entered the secondary market. This unique work is carved in Northwest Coast yellow cedar but maintains a traditional Papua New Guinean form.
Alcheringa Gallery is pleased to introduce the work of Teslin Tlingit / Teslin Haida artist Jean Taylor. Taylor's portraits closely observe Raven's personality with intelligence and careful reflection.
