Innovative Visions of the Formline: New Works by Rande Cook

In preparation for this exhibition, Rande Cook has made a study of the traditional formline, a set of design principles that defines the artistic visual art form of the Northwest Coast. Northwest Coast art is distinguished by the use of strong flowing lines and characteristic shapes referred to as ovoids, circles and U forms.

Apart from historical records, Rande has been influenced by the work of renowned Kwakwaka'wakw artist Doug Cranmer, who created a series of brilliant abstract paintings in the 70's based on formline elements. Rande's research has resulted in the execution of a series of works, playful yet powerful, that attest to the timeless ability of the formline to provide a voice for each successive generation.

We have no artworks of this kind at the moment.
