Artist Statement:

This is the demented diabolical unofficial grindhouse sequel to Maynard Johnny Jr's Eye-pod lol. Actually I was inspired by this work of his. Being an artist who loves to play with words, I wanted to do my own interpretation of my contemporary's work. I wanted to create a Coast Salish design of a pod of whales emphasizing the eyes of the whales, hence "eyePOD." Although I personally love my iPOD classic, I also wanted to create a work which reflected on modern human detachment from the natural world via technological trappings. I sometimes feel a kinship with anachronistic spirits. With all the music, movies, photographs, games and internet content which can be enjoyed on an iPOD, it can never replace reality. For this reason, the whales in this design fit on pART of the painting.
