From Haida Printmaker, Hilary Stewart "Commissioned to carve a wooden door for a private home, the artists again used the subject of the whale, composing the design for the outside of the door to fit completely within the confines of the required shape. The anatomy of the whale was rearranged in abstract form, with the basic elements of the art balancing and melding in a sophisticated way that is the very essence of complex Haida designs." "The print, translated from the carved door into black and red, prominently features the whale's head (facing right and down), with an eye in the large ovoid, the snout and the mouth with two rows of teeth. Above and to the left rises the dorsal fin, and next to it a small round face decorates the whale's blow hole. At the base the tail fluke in profile completes a tightly knit composition."
