Artist Statement:

In the spirit of spindle whorls, this giANT ((((GIAnt))) painting is a mediational microcosm. The color black, a color devoid of light, works with light for the deSIGN ((((the sign, and the signified))). One of the sources of inspiration for this work was Robert Davidson's Abstract Impulse works, in which a minimal usage of Northwest Coast design elements is intended to evoke Haida art. The minimal usage of a cross hatched circle in this design, in Western scientific thought, could be interpreted as cells, atoms, or pARTicles. One pART creates the wHOLE. On another level, the circle symbolizes the earth and the cycles of the cosmos, while the cross-hatched lines symbolize Western linear time, a matrix, and the compartmentalization of human beings via the internet.
