Robert enjoys various mediums such as jewelry, Argillite carving, wood carving, painting and wood block printing.
Robert is a Raven belonging to K’yaa nuu Salii (Cod People). Robert’s Nunnii (Grandmother) has her paternal roots from Yan. Chief Stilta was her great Uncle, Simeon Sdihldaa was her great Grandfather (Chinii). Robert sells his art in various galleries in Vancouver BC, Victoria BC and on Haida Gwaii at Skidegate Museum and Sitka Studios in Tllal BC. Much of his work is sold in private collections in Canada, USA, and Mexico, selling on the Internet.
In 2010, Robert accepted the position as Indigenous Resource Worker at Queen Charlotte Secondary School / Gidgalang Kuuyas Naay, House of Precious Children. Here Robert works with the high - risk First Nations students, First Nations students in general. At GKNSS,Robert provides Haida Cultural activities bringing in mentors and Elders to fill the gap where the curriculum falls short.
Robert has taught Haida Form- Line drawing, introduction to wood and argillite 2-D carving to students studying Haida language.
Robert has begun working under Jesse Brillon learning repousse’ technique.

Robert Vogstad joined up with local artist Lynn Lee to create the winning logo design representing Haida Culture immersed with the flair of International community on Haida Gwaii!

Robert was commissioned the cover design for an article, “Storms and Stillness” by Alejandro Frid.

2008. Robert was one of the Haida Argillite carvers represented by Carol Sheehan’s book, “Breathing Stone, Contemporary Haida Argillite Sculpture”. Frontenac House Publishers had an opening for this book for which his monumental sculpture was sold before the opening night.
2008 HAIDA CANOE CARVING APRENTICSHIP:
Robert also apprenticed under Haida artist Bill Bellis, carving the “Bear Awaking” canoe.
This canoe was one of three Haida canoes constructed for the Kaay Centre in Skidegate, Haida Gwaii.
