Artist Statement:
In the spirit of spindle whorls, this circular Coast Salish design depicts four salmon heads in a circle. Through visual punning, the eyes of the salmon also symbolize water rippling. The concentric circles of the salmon eyes and crescents rippling from it symbolize salmon living in harmony with their ecosystem, a vision which humans could learn from. From a teleological perspective, from a traditional Coast Salish perspective, nature is our teacher.
