Artist Statement:

The smALL experience of seeing the Pacific Ocean one day and seeing how low Englishman River on Vancouver Island was the next day inspired me to reflect on water levels for this painting. I was inspired to think deeper. Like the Black American poet Langston Hughes, "my soul has grown deep like the river." Whenever I look at rivers, I feel that rivers are friends who foster my thoughts. Like my ancestors before me, I believe that nature is our teacher.

This painting depicts four abstracted salmon. The abstraction of the design symbolizes the abstraction of the human mind and resultant detactment from nature. As water levels have fallen to record lows on Vancouver Island, humanity needs to take care of the planIT before sea levels rise and NOah is nowhere in sight.
