Enquire about this Artwork

Tipping Point depicts a Salish house-post that is almost tipping over. This symbolizes First Nations culture and its near destruction due to colonial domination. Using various oppressive techniques (e.g. residential schools, governmental policies, financial manipulation), the Canadian government tried to eliminate First Nations practices and knowledge so that indigenous people would assimilate to a "Canadian" lifestyle. But many refused to surrender their ways of living, and risked their freedom, and even their lives, to maintain their traditional practices. And thanks to our fearless ancestors, these cultures have survived and have been passed onto the newer generations. So "Tipping Point" is meant to honor everyone, from every Nation across the country, who fought to keep indigenous wisdom alive.
