This a mask that talks about the silencing of my people, when the banning of our potlatches was in affect, my ancestors stood and watched many of their sacred masks burned. This one has a missing mouth because of the loss of our voices as natives, we also lost our language and were no longer allowed to sing. This is a mask of the past, which allows me today, to have the strength of my ancestors, to move forward as they did. I have the opportunity to create today because of their perseverance and determination to never give up.
