ARTIST’S STATEMENT This contemporary Coast Salish design depicts two subtle salmon heads and two salmon eggs. As with my previous painting, “Salmon eggs,” the theme of this painting is the graphic development and perpetuation of Coast Salish art. Although the geometric triangles and subtle circles of this design may appear very contemporary, they are in fact in the spirit of Coast Salish design traditions. The geometric triangles are inspired by motifs utilized in traditional Coast Salish weavings, while the subtle circles are inspired by the Coast Salish tradition of subtly suggesting one’s spirituality through visual art, song, and dance. -- lessLIE
