The Whitney South Sea Expedition, circa 1921-1932, collected bird specimens for the American Museum of Natural History under the leadership of Rollo Beck and his wife Ida Beck. The expedition visited islands in the south Pacific region and returned with the most bird specimens ever collected on one voyage – over 40,000 skins.
